the 'stick' looks a little thin at the back of the 'bayonet' imo. but all looks great so far.

Love the Rhino. Top job. I would assemble the combi bolter as normal and have it on its actual mount, but use the tentacles to burrow into its casing as if it replaces the mechanics that turn and aim it, moving it by muscle (tentacle) power instead. Bu t I'd definitely keep a hint of its original workings to tie it in better with the rest of the vehicle. For the same reason I'd be cautious about a tentacle eye. In my experience too much fleshy daemon matter on a mutated vehicle is detrimental to the overall looks and can make it look quite comical. As for the Dreadnought, I like what you've done, although I have a problem with the white stick not running parallel to the gun barrels. Looks odd to me. Maybe you could mount the arm end a littfurther down and close the gap with green stuff.

I wouldn't go down the tentacle operating/fusing with weapon road. Though an interesting idea and a good sculpting challenge, it could very well and up looking way to cartoony - and we wouldn't want that on our super realistic half rotten and decease ridden super spacesoldiers!

Thanks for all you comments and advice - it's really motivating to be back in a forum and getting feedback for what I'm working on. It's been quite some time since I've kept up a pace like the one I'm managing right now. So, I give you: Typhus is finished (and you can find him on CMON here): I think the swamp on the base works really well in the picture, but it actually might be a trick of the light on the gloss varnish I applied. The handle of the scythe is another matter, unfortunately. It's the old metal model, and I didn't manage to even out the groove from the mould which has left a rather unseeming line. Oh well... I really took your comments on the Hellbrute seriously and rearranged the stick behind the bayonet. I just need to follow Zog's advice and flesh it out a little - maybe even literally... And again based on a comment in here, I've begun sculpting a Nurgle stomach unto the Hellbrute - with broken skin and spilling entrails and biomech wires. It should get really nasty with application of Nurgle's Rot in the painting phase. I'm not completely done as you can see, but I just wanted you to show some of the stages I've put into it. The entrails had hardened completely before I added the first layer of flesh, and hopefully the second layer will be added soon. you can also see the effect from the rhino applied underneath the raised left arm, although I think I pulled off that effect a bit better on the rhino. Also note the infected thick tongue which has replaced the tentacles in the same area. I hope I can make the effect of vile, incurable sores on the tongue work in the paint job: Finally, there's the rhino itself. I monkeyed around with the tentacle and combi-bolter idea for some time, but based on your comments and the realisation that both hatches won't really look good next to each other, I've decided to stick with what I've got, so yesterday I primed it and began painting the rust. I'll keep you posted of course, but do keep your advice coming. It's really helpful.

This is good - really nice to see you up and running again. Typhus is looking great - but CMoN, sorry that's just tearing out your own heart these days. We actually had a talk about it here some weeks back, and just for the fun of it I uploaded a couple of minis, including the last one made - the praetorian herakli, it now has the lowest score of ALL the minis I have ever uploaded Regarding the hellbrute - get him to a hospital ASAP, classical example of Toxic Bowel Syndrome.

Thanks, guys - you make me all mushy inside . I was a bit disappointed with the CMON-ratings at first, but I have had a few disappointments in there already so posted anyway because it sometimes brings useful comments. I did check out Manus' minis at the same time and it's an outrage that they have to make do with what they've got. Maybe the painting community has become spoiled or maybe it just lives in the same kind of reality that makes us take it for granted that women should look like the starved, photoshopped aliens we are presented with in the media. >:DWhoops, gotta get off the soap box... Back to the agenda: Regarding the hellbrute - get him to a hospital ASAP, classical example of Toxic Bowel Syndrome. I guess you would be the one to know about that - although I don't want to know whether that knowledge is strictly theoretical By the way, today I dropped by my local dealer of plastic crack, and although I only was there for a new primer, I ended up bringing home with me a box of finecast Plague Marines. I'm looking very much forward to painting those (not much call for GS and conversion), but I'd better try and finish off one thing at a time. Presently painting the rhino and GSing the Hellbrute. Also, my 13-year-old daughter has been affected by her father's addictions and is slowly building a mixed collection of whatever minis take her fancy, so today she bought a box of Riders of the Thorn. We had a cosy evening at a table in the garden where we filed, glued and GSed, and judging from her retching sounds it seems I'm heading in the right direction with the Hellbrute. I'll show you soon.

So, first update since May. To me, summer (also) equals examinations (my students', not mine), music festivals, travels, outdoor reading, and loads of open water swimming. That's all very good, but it does mean that the minis take a back seat. Luckily school has started again, the sea water is slowling cooling and the rain is pouring down. So: The Rhino has been finished, yay! Here goes: I really like the way it has come out. The tentacles might be a bit harsh, but overall I'm satisified. I considered adding mud along the bottom of the tank (like near and on the treads) but decided against it as the model seems a little busy already - I don't want to push it so far that it visually falls apart. The Hellbrute stands unchanged since May, but yesterday I got to work on a unit of finecast Plague Marines that I intend to mix with SM, CSM and MaxMini bits. I'm still only building and modelling them, and they need quite a lot of GS because some of them were cast with about a 2mm shift in the mould. It's tiresome, but I was going to give them GS anyway, so I just soldier on. And because my first Rhino is done, I'm starting on my second one - loads more GS to be added. I like the corrupted holes in the front and I'm considering doing the same part on the other side so that the area seems like one soft, leathery surface.

Nice job on the Rhino. The tentacles might be a bit harsh, but overall I'm satisified. I was going to say. The tentacles are very green. It's hard to tell from the pictures, as they are somewhat smallish, but if you want to do something about that, you could tone down the green one the insides where the tentacles bend, going with a bit darker green. You would get more depth on them which should make them stand out a bit less, and mirror the depth the recesses of the Rhino hull give you. Not sure if you've done anything like that already. As I said, the picture is a bit small for me to tell. Typhus's green exhausts seem to have a less stark effect than the tentacles.

That's a good idea, Geifer. I tried layering the tentacles, but I think I got carried away in the end. I think I'll try with Dark Angels Green or something similar in the deep shadow. Thanks!
