This little lot is what I'll be working on next for my HH force: There's 31 metal BA and vanilla beakies. Can't believe all still had mould lines on them and quite a few still had flash. To say they're 20+ years old (?) you'd think I'd have got them cleaned up by now. All flash/mould lines are now removed finally. Got most of the backpacks required sorted as well as a bunch of the old bolters. As they're HH era I'm removing the aquila off the bolters. Good job I've got a few though as I've knackered up some drilling out the barrels.

I think it was a warmaster figure. It originally had a small rider on it's back and a hole in its belly for a flying stand.
Could do with getting a few more but only had one in my box. So I've located a mordheim witch hunters war hound which will also get the bionic treatment and probably a much more shaggy coat.

I've drilled a hole in between the neck and should pad on the iron priest for the wire that the cyber-ravens supported on to slot into, so I can have it removable for storage. It'll also make switching between 30k/40k easier as I can swap it from the iron priest to a rune priest as needed. Need to decide if I'm going to stick with plain backpacks or have the wolf headed ones for characters. Part of me is really wanting to do all the 30k models with old school backpacks. But I also think the wolf backpack rocks. I might keep the wolf packs for the models I'm going to actually use for the special characters or will that look daft? Ruined 4 wolf pads last night trying to shave of the rims to make mk7 into mk6. Tried gs'ing them and it looks like they're now usable. Since I've moved from using water to petroleum jelly to keep the gs off my tools it's become a lot easier. Next gs job will be the war hound into a cyber-familiar. To finish these models off ready for painting I need to: - find a hand and combat shield (inspired by a certain memory lane post) for the rune priest - sort a wolf headed thunder hammer for the iron priest - finish assembling 2 long fangs and 2 wolf guards Shouldn't take take that long to get the above jobs done. So I might get some other models assembled as the weather is playing up at the moment.

After getting the cyber-raven sorted I've tried to do a bit more gs'ing. So I've been working on getting some chests to match the other beakies I'll be doing in a later vow. Currently got a few old chaos chests carved up and gs'd smooth. Will aim to get them to match this one I've done: Don't think it looks all that different when compared with the only example of a plastic chest that's close to the metal ones, I wanted to keep it generic rather than just SW: For the Librarian (Rune Priest) I decided on a combat shield. So I've finally got around to starting one. Never GS'd a wood effect before but hopefully it looks passable: Think it looks better when it's on the model so it's got more of a sense of scale and the pattern on the shield helps as well (it's not staying that colour): Think I'm getting a little more confident with handling and sculpting with GS now. The pads for the beakies have been trimmed into mk6 and the pads for the Heavy weapons have had rims added to make them look quite close to mk3. To have everything ready for paint I just need to sort out the Thunder Hammer head on the Forge Lord (Iron Priest) convert up a Vox for the Heavy Support Squad (Long Fangs) and assemble 2 more of the Seeker Squad (Wolf Guard). Other than that the rest have been assemble and undercoated!

That shield looks perfect - you don't need to worry about the wood grain, that's for sure!
It's all very impressive indeed.

Loving the shield Ste, I`ve got some of those metal wolves around here may do a few squads in 30k but no more than that. But first other projects to do before 30k.
Keep up with the good work mate.

Cheers for the comments. I'm going to be trying more out with gs soon. Once I've got the current lot finished being assembled I'll undercoat and get some more WIP pics up. I've been carving up random chests and will be trying to do more of the mk6 chests so I'll have them ready to go when I need them. @ doom - message me when your getting ready to start the 30k force.

That wood effect sculpting looks great Steve, what did you sculpt it with? Jut a standard sculpting tool or something else? FK All my sculpting has been with fingers or scalpel blade. I use 3 different blades but generally it's whichever is to hand. I've also use cocktail sticks when a round hole is required. Might get some dental tools at some point but currently not struggled without them. The main thing that's really helped me is using petroleum jelly to keep the gs from getting stuck on the blades.

This is the look I'm aiming for the armour: The grey is not that many steps so should be able to get through doing them pretty quickly and it's kept pretty dark which is what I want my wolves to be. Think the purple power weapon is definitely getting changed and I'm not sold on doing the usual yellow pads. Though if I keep all the pelts brown/grey/black the yellow if kept fairly dark should work with the brown. Lol ... So still really up in the air with what to do. Weapons wise I'll be aiming to have a rich dark red on the casings. One thing that's different from my normal 40k SW's is that I'll be sticking to gun metal/silver for all metals. There will be no gold in the 30k force. I see the SW's in 30k portrayed as killing machines who will follow instruction to the letter almost cold in the killing. When looking at the 40k SW's I see them as a force who learned a few lessons over the previous 10k years and they now are a lot more free thinking not willing to bow to instructions from so called powers of the administratum (IMO getting fooled by horus burned their fingers). I'm hoping that may just seep through a little bit in the look of these models.
