Nice work, but then I did like the one you posted before. Shame that your efforts didn't pay off.

It's a very clean (almost pre-Star Wars) sci-fi look you've given them, not at all like the more usual 'Alien' slimy grimy look that most people seem to go for. Like it a lot.

Thank you again for the kind and helpful comments - I currently don't have the motivation to spend even more time on the hybrids. But when I do the next "batch" I will give the "brush-wash-highlight" a try because the skin does seem rather flat despite my efforts. There is a bit more terrain on the way that I will hopefully finish before the holidays. In the meantime here a link to the latest battle report with the new minis in action. For once the Children were victorious and completely defeated the 30K-Marines, last but not least due to some lucky / unlucky dice rolls. Next week the Alpha Legion will be supported by the Death Guard against my Children - I am looking forward to another game but I'm also a bit afraid of his tougher troops and his dreadnought.

The Children yet again won a great victory against the 30K Marines - against a rather static army the Return To The Shadows rule is not only fluffy but also rather powerful. Pictures of the battle - and also of a very nice Death Guard Apothecarius and some lightning-covered power weapons - are located here. In the meantime I finally finished the last parts of this "block" for The Children. The pipeline - likely reconnected to transport pre-digested biomass instead of promethium: And also the bigger Limo - which can switch between 'cult mode' and 'civilian mode' and has some extra rockets. If used in games I will play it with the rules for the Elysian Tauros Venator. That's it for the moment from the Children of The Skymother. I still have to build some platforms to create space in the display cabinet fo all those new minis. Preferably in a way that makes them usable also for games. This will likely be a bit tricky but I will keep you updated.

Lovely work! Is that the GW pipeline?

@pipeline: Yes, it's the one from GW. In the meantime I have been planning and then constructing a platform to make some more room in my display cabinet. I wanted it to be also usable in games. It will be part of my spaceport-themed terrain. It's made with leftover bits from an Imperial City, cardboard, an old terrain-kit of some other manufacturer and plastic card. It provides enough room to park three medium-sized vehicles or some of my containers underneath. I wanted it to look not to complicated and plan to build an extension with an elevator. At the moment it seems a bit bland but I don't want to add any skulls, lamps or other devices. It's a place for storing things, nothing else. There are 4 hatches with ladders so infantry can "realistically" reach the top. Looking at the pictures now the walls DO look very bland - I might add a console, control-panel or at least some tools here and there... After that I plan to build another similar structure to complement this one and maybe an additional smaller platform (or two) to provide some extra room in the display cabinet...

Looking good. It certainly makes me want to build terrain.
With regard to the blandness of the walls, I reckon something of that size can easily take a couple of spots where the metal, assuming you paint it metallic, is more corroded. That breaks up the bareness effectively. Hazard stripes, arrows and inscription also work. especially if you intend for traffic to go through there. A couple of bits would help, sure, but there's a good bit you can achieve with paint as well.

Cheers! Simple solution: added a bit more structure to the edges - now it looks more convincing without adding unnecessary details.

And here is the other piece that will help providing some extra room in my display cabinet for the cult: The Entry. It represents the entry to a larger complex at the spaceport from which the Children originated... You can also see that the pipes don't fit perfectly - but this will not be seen 95% of the time and I am to lazy to fill in the missing 3 mm. It will be placed against the back- or side-wall of the display cabinet. It can also be used in games to represent the entry into a Zone Mortalis or as an interesting backdrop at the table edge. There are 2 levels to provide a lot of room in the display cabinet and it is high enough to park tanks, cars or walkers underneath. On the top level are some grills (already covered by masking tape) to make it a bit more interesting without cluttering it with details. I might build a few more of these "flat-backed" buildings in order to fill one side of the table edge completely. Additionally I plan to use them for separating the table into two areas - an open part for the spaceport and a section full with corridors and hallways representing a Zone Mortalis-like facility like a warehouse or cluttered hangar. Oh, and meanwhile the Children suffered defeat by the hands of the Alpha Legion & Death Guard supported by their new Leviathan.

Looks cool. I've been contemplating a display case backdrop myself. I like the Zone Mortalis entry idea, too. I did that once, way back when "Zone Mortalis" meant laying out Spacehulk tiles beyond the board edge. Made for a pretty cool game.

I play Space Hulk every now and then during our campaigns - it's a nice twist to the "usual" 40K but I think I ever only won one out of 10 games I played. The backdrop is finished: Again a rather "quick and dirty" paintjob but good enough for my terrain-standards This is the second floor. As you can see on the picture above I even corrected the missing 3mm before painting. Yet you can see clearly where the construction was somewhat problematic... I did paint some of the details on the structure but limited it to a few thingies. Here the top floor with the grilles: And here you can see its use in the display cabinet: As you can see it freed some space that will soon be occupied by more Childern. However the Marines are quite crowded now - I will rearrange them a bit tonight.
