Ah the Black Library ones, yeah I'm getting what they call "legacy editions" now. Hated when they started the Hardbacks as they don't match the rest! So had to wait. Yup ... I'm stuck at the Betrayer point waiting for the next to be released in the small paperback size. Got a shelf almost filled with HH novels.

Was looking over twitter and the mass of #warmongers tweets and noticed a lot of chatter about guard next year, probably valhallans. Now guard makes me happy. Valhallans not so much. Would much prefer plastic Tallahn or plastic Tanith to be the release.

Found a little more on the IG rumours. Courtesy of BoLS Tongues are wagging regarding Codex Imperial Guard, on the far side of Tyranids. Here's the latest: These rumors come to us in multiple sets, and we have ordered them from most trustworthy to least based on a variety of "truthifying methods": The Probable stuff: IG Veterans/Stormtroopers (plastic 5-man box) Hydra Artillery combo-kit Roughriders (new plastic box) The Possible stuff: IG Regiment Doctrines: Each Regiment (Cadian, Catachan, etc...)has doctrines, similar to SM Chapter tactics. Examples listed were: Cadians - may issue 2 orders to a unit Catachans - Move-thru-cover, and Jungle Fighter ( ) Thunderbolt flyer: Very heavy armor, but cannot jink. The Salt-mine Imperial Robots - 2 new robots, requiring an Admech handler/enginseer. Knight Paladin - Taller than riptide, not as tall as Wraithknight. Vanquisher cannon and Uber-chainsword are standard load out. May upgrade to Punisher Cannon, Uber-Fist with Inferno Flamers ~Have at it. We are hearing that IG are very early in 2014 on the heels of Tyranids. All i am going to say is....Knight titans.....GW do this and all your sins will be forgiven. That kit could cost £100 and i would still buy it.

FW said they would tackle the knight Titans I am sure. I cannot see why these would fit into anything to do with the IG as they are Mechanicum assets from the Heresy used to protect Forgeworlds. They had a void shield, so having that mechanic in standard 40k would not be something outside of Apoc.

They had a void shield, so having that mechanic in standard 40k would not be something outside of Apoc. Wasn't there a short story (probably late 80's early 90's) of rather backward worlds (almost warhammer setting) which had "Knights" protecting them from Orks and such. It wasn't until part way into the story that you realised they mounted up into knight titans that it was a proper 40k setting. So I'm not sure it's just Mechanicum protection of forge worlds, from fluff they are also used in backward feudal worlds where the "Lords" ride out to protect the realm. Either way I'm all for them releasing them as I can imagine some funky constructs either being constructed by the Iron Hands or close ties with the Mechanicum would allow the use of them in support of the IH's in battle.

The only question now will be over the existing finecast kits. Will they just shift them straight to plastic or will people have to wait years for them. I would imagine the fincast moulds should be ok for the plastic to be used.

Why go to the effort? Finecast already melts in the summer heat. The only question now will be over the existing finecast kits. Will they just shift them straight to plastic or will people have to wait years for them. I would imagine the fincast moulds should be ok for the plastic to be used. As I understand it resin uses modified metal molds, which makes it incompatible with plastic molding. We'd have to wait for proper resculpts of characters before we see them in plastic. Now, of course if you look at Fantasy GW is including ever more special characters in big kits they can ride as an option, but with Shadowblade we have our first single model special character in plastic.

Unless they use a different type of material in the moulds. But the way that rumour is written is that they'll eventually be redone, until then Forgeworld will be uses their resin to make the kits. So ancient models like Abaddon and Blackmane will be made by them until GW finally gets round to resculpting them as plastic clampacks.

As I understood the process as outlined by a GW staffer, Finecast is a mixture of resin and plastic in various degrees - quite often the ratio is dependent on the actual model to be cast itself. Also, although the old moulds from the metal figs were perfectly okay to use in and of themselves, the initial problems were caused because the mould used to slip because of the lighter materiel.
Moulds had to be modified with rubber gaskets to prevent this, so the net costs started to outweigh the benefits.

The molds don't slip because of the lighter material, that's bull-s*#% the molds are designed to be spuncast for metal that is what is supposed to stop bad casts?the reason you get slippage is because they try and use the mold before it's cooled down enough so the rubber of the mold is not as 'firm'. Here is how minis are born : youtu.be/IYVIVzCmH10
