I like him. He certainly fits with Inso's (pretty good) idea of a pragmatic choice of gear for boarding. Ha - will go a head, see if you can learn that much Well, here I am sitting with a couple of buildings for a farmstead and not even knowing what best to use for basing them and their immediate surroundings. Feels more like my own mistakes are just waiting to happen at the moment.

For basing try getting some of that Foamex or foamalux stuff - that's what I'll be using from now on. You can see the use a few posts up. Though Crazy Ivan came relatively easy to me, I have had somewhat of a struggle actually picturing those void pirates - or perhaps not the picturing, but how to actually turn that into miniatures. Not that easy to make the minis flashy and flamboyant and at the same time time keep them gritty and darkcore - which is still the way I want to go. But having thought it over during the weekend, I have come to the conclusion that they don't all have to be flashy - captain will of cause, but for the rest I'll try to focus on that they are actually pirates. A ramshackle horde of misfits, hardcore (though extremely romanticised) criminals - feared for their ferocity and their failing respect for human/xenos life. Thus the minis will reflect this side of things, hopefully showing some badass characters you'd make sure to hide from and you shouldn't be in doubt why they ended up pirates. I focus less on making them look like Caribbean pirates but still try to incorporate little reference bits and pieces - and hopefully draw them all to gether with the paintjob. Next up is this bloke - not named yet - I wanted something brutal with a big gun for my hullbreaching team.

It took me a while to realise that it was an ogryn. It's a nice start... can we see a back shot of it? I like the cyber whip and lock arm on the bolter

Looking good. I think you have the right idea about the aesthetic direction of the warband. Save the fancy stuff for the officers, deck hands don't get any of that. For basing try getting some of that Foamex or foamalux stuff - that's what I'll be using from now on. You can see the use a few posts up. What exactly is it and why do I get the feeling I don't want anything with "foam" in its name? Next up is this bloke - not named yet - I wanted something brutal with a big gun for my hullbreaching team. Bullbreach.

Cheers.
It's very compact foamed PVC material used for outdoor signs. Not foamy at all, comes across very solid.

Hmm. I'll keep that in mind. Not sure where to come by the stuff, though. I'm currently considering 1.5mm plasticard.

I got mine in a local copyshop. He had some cut-offs laying around. You can also get it on ebay.

Well, I'm lazy and went and ordered some plasticard after all. Time to make my own mistakes, I say! Yours aren't bad enough for me! Say, you painted those nice leather pants on, umm, I forgot his name. The ogre. You don't happen to have a detailed walkthrough for that? I see some leather wear coming up in my future and am looking for options at the moment.

Well plastic card is way to thin imo - so don't come crying to me whence you fail terribly......... I'll see if I have something for the leather. Tzaangors - love that kit so overly detailed and twisted. Pretty sure they will be be put to use loads in the future. First use for me will be this - which I'm pretty sure will end up being an eldar pirate.

Good start. Although I do have to wonder, did anyone ever tell you having xenos in your merry band of pirates is extra heretical? Just saying. But that gave me an idea. I think you need an Imperial preacher, you know, because that's good for your soul, in you pirate band who is surprisingly tolerant of xenos but constantly whacks humans over the head with a stick for being heretical if they get too friendly with the Eldar. Ideally he looks like Bud Spencer, too. Well plastic card is way to thin imo - so don't come crying to me whence you fail terribly......... Luckily it comes in different thicknesses, though. The good thing is, if I fail terribly, I'll have a lifetime supply of plasticard to work with (or totally not, if I actually work with it, my newly built reserves will dwindle quickly...). Well, we'll see. The last bits for my little rural village should be on their way by now, so if I get lucky I can give it a try this weekend.

All righty then - More xenos please, the preacher is a good idea though... I have been really impressed with the Tzaangors - very sinister and very terrible in just the right way.

Nice. The Eldar is interestingly bulky compared to how Eldar usually look.

I totally agree - and the rather mundane shotgun adds to the creepy feel of the mini. You could additionally remove / replace one or two of the more demonic thingies on the miniature to make it even more Imperium-like and therefore a bit less exotic.
