No rest for the wicked right? I'm painting like a demon so far this year, so just need to keep up my momentum. Up next in the painting queue is the UCM infantry and then the Skinks for this month's fantasy challenge. After that I'll actually get my PHR sorted. For them I'm waiting to magnetise the dropship docking clamps so they'll look awesome on the table!

How will you base them? Static grass is no option I guess (Dropzone being cityfight and just because static grass would like be bamboo to these guys).

I don't know yet, it's a conundrum... Any other thoughts?

Maybe just fine sand? Then paint it grey/blackish with white/yellow lines so it looks like they are running over streets?

Yeah, a few others from club have suggested the same sort of thing... Certainly seems the most obvious.

Have you thought of sticking them onto clear acetate sheet? - that way they'll pretty much blend into any surface

There's that GW textured stuff for bases... I have no idea what it is like but it is available.

These fellows. Not tried them myself. Although a possibility for tarmac could be the grey one with a black wash maybe...

According to me textured paint is not worth the purchase. It is just paint with sand in it. If you want you can also just mix a bit sand with the paints you already have, and at least you can still use those paints for other things than basing then. But adding sand to your base first and theh paint it will still get you a better effect though. Sand in paint will not distribute equally and so textured paints may help you basing quicker, you will get a worse result. Basing doesn't take up that much time to begin with, so why cutting corners.
