Been busy scraping away at the excess glue and making very slow progress on the bridge master at the moment. I've also been sorting out tank bits for my 30k project and have ended up with a load of the rectangular front plates from the old rhino kit: I've wanted to do an arbites riot squad type unit for many years, though they may suit using with the old storm troopers instead. They'll be going into the guard bits box ready for when I restart the Guard again.

Started working on scenery ideas, just rough chopping up of bits to trial making some corridors for a zone mortalis board. Gonna do some pics later on if it works to plan.

Been struggling to get my pics edited or even rotated correctly as the laptop is on it's last legs so this will all be done via the phone. I'll come back and tidy things up at a future point. Progress has been made on prototype board ideas. Looks like I've found a way of getting different levels quickly. Below are some mock ups of what I'll try and do. There will be more shapes once I've worked out how to do the walls. This shows how the higher bit is supported: This is with the higher bits in place: Was thinking of lots of different a shaped raised bits and maybe using some of the rectangle bits for additional texture:

It'll look a lot better once the different textures are on. I'm planning on casting up a sheet of textured board to act as the base for the floor then add raised sections. If I can get it nice and square then it'll work nicely.
Also having raised sections makes it easier to add recessed pipes and other bits.
Not sure how high to do the walls though? The lower they are the easier it is to move models around. The higher they are the more thematic it looks.
So how high should the walls be?

I always use Necromunda bulkheads as the standard height, 3", this is also what I understand that Deadzone is using, roughly.

Make it modular at 3" and the sky is quite literally the limit

Cheers for the feedback, I'll give 3" a go!

Looks like the standard size of the baseboards will be 3 1/2" wide to match the grid stuff I've got. Just need to decide how long to make them. The base board will definitely be cast up as the same bit will be used repeatedly. The skins on the different shapes is coming along nicely. Trying to work out if it's cheaper to just make them from scratch or cast them up as well. Time wise casting in the long run wins hands down but not sure the cost break will be hit to make it worthwhile as I'll only need a few of each bit. The aim is to have some funky futuristic scenery to play 30k on, which I reckon is now in my sites. Need to see if I can get hold of one of those funky tools you can use to make gs pipes with. I'm also looking at what to make pipes and other bits from. So straws, cocktail sticks, even the plastic tubes from cotton buds have all started migrating towards the hobby space. One thing I've found is that its almost impossible to cut thin strips of plasticard from a sheet. If anyone has any solutions I'm all ears! Another thing I'm struggling with is some form of door. Not sure if I should try doing blast doors that can be open or shut sliding or just the frames. Need to get some more pics taken but I'll leave that for tomorrow.

Thin strips of Plasticard, you say?
Scissors!
Seriously, a pair of serrated kitchen scissors or the equivalent will go through it far easier and safer than a knife will, no matter how sharp the blade.....

Depending on the thickness of the card a rotary blade guillotine from a stationers (or possibly Asda) will give you a straight line . For opening doors, bending plasticard around a tube or wire rod (brazing rod is good if you can cadge one from a garage or fabricators - or buy some from a welding suppliers if need be) and then gluing down would then just require a hole in the floor and maybe a support at the top (if the hole isn't deep enough to support the door on it's own).

Hmmm ... Kitchen scissors you say? Cheers for the info, think I'll have to give them a go. Last night while cutting up some 1.5mm plasticard I found it was the exact width required for the flooring it also happened to be just a tad smaller than a piece of textured card I was wanting to use for the floor. So the flooring sheet has ended up being the length of the piece of card I had rather than a specific length. Sort of glad the decision was taken away from me as I'd not have got it finished by now.

Not sure if I should try doing blast doors that can be open or shut sliding or just the frames. Very interesting project. During several years of both terrain building and converting, I have tried to cut various bits my self and collected tons of little pieces of scrap, that could be used instead of ........ What I have found is, buy pieces that fit! I mean for this project, instead of spending ours of cutting strips that will not fit anyway, but some strips that fit. Most plasticstrips come pretty cheap - and when you compare to the other plastics we spend money on in this hobby - really cheap Over the years I have gathered quite a collection of various shapes and profiles and it simply makes every day conversion/building so much easier. I normally use Evergreen Plastics. If you don't have a local hobbyshop carrying their line, I have used this ebay shop lots of times: LINK

Cheers for the link. Think some of the strips would work very well. Also there's plastic rods which I didn't realise were available.
Managed to cadge some guitar wire from a mate who plays so that'll be added to the bits as well.
Next up is the walls which I think will be a lot more smoother.

Here's the flooring sheets and extra bits: Might change the size of the flooring sheets as I've just had an idea to swap a few bits around making a lot more of the detail being wall mounted so the playing surface is more level for easier game play. Gonna have a play about with the bits I've made and see what I can come up with. I finally have an idea on the door details, will have to see if it works or not.
