Thanks. 46 with the Commissar, 48 with the two vehicles. But for simplicity's sake, 20% done sounds good and does not overheat my brain with math. Oh, and the multi part guys are just an infantry squad (well, half of it, really). I forgot to take a picture of the assembled command squad, of course. Well, I think I might remember that for long enough to add a photo of them next time around. Yeah, right.

Update time! And sculpting on the Commissar is complete, to the surprise of everyone, myself included: I got done early, quite unexpectedly, but that's ok because real life interfered and I found myself with less time than I planned, so painting on the next five soldiers didn't progress half as much as I wanted to. Oh well... At least I'll get to undercoating Marika tonight or tomorrow (hopefully the former), so if all goes well I may actually get her painted by Friday. Also, as mentioned here's the Command Squad that I assembled last week but took no pictures of:

Not too shabby at the old GS sculpting stuff are you? The aquila bra is necessary because she wears carapace armor. Got to keep it WYSIWYG.

Thanks. Oh, how wonderful it is to paint tiny faces with shaking hands like mine. Spent an hour today getting the face right.

Update time! Yay, it finally happened! And by "it" I mean the moment when my interest starts slipping. I've been working on Imperial Guard for six weeks now, give or take, and over the last week I have slowed down immensely. Painting isn't happening as fast as it should, my Chimera remains unassembled, and my mind is filled with images of elvish boobies instead of strapping lads. Therefore it is unlikely that my poor Guardsmen will receive much attention in the immediate future. That said, the Commissar is almost completed and the five soldiers still on my painting table need only their basing done. This is going to happen, and, although going is slow, might be done by the end of the week. And I'm just saying "might" to be safe, realistically there's nothing speaking against it. Hopefully I will keep painting Guardsmen on the side if my next project affords me some spare time. On the bright side, elvish boobies! After an August to October painting marathon left me burnt out, I am in the mood for my Dark Elves again. I got them out of their box again today and started finishing the Corsairs, who were missing the flag. Well, one side is painted, the other should follow later today, and after that I shall apply gratuitous amounts of Blood for the Blood God. Then they are ready for a photosession. Well, ok. After varnishing and waiting for that to dry, of course. Same for the Medusa, really. Next stop after that: Kharibdyss. Or Kharybdiss. Or whatever. One of these days I'm going to strangle Mat Ward... On the modeling side I need to make all those characters I want in the army. I've so far relied on old Dark Elves to stand in for them in my games. Time to get these done, since that's five models accounting for 1000pts of the army. No better way to get an army done than that.

pew - was almost getting worried, some long time with the same focus.
Love that commisar though - and paint on her yet?

Thanks, Manus. Yeah, I wass starting to scare myself there, but all has returned to its natural order now. So let's see how long I'll stick with Dark Elves this time around. Yes, there's a bit of paint on the Commissar. Literally only a quarter of hour of work left, so I'll be able to complete her today. I hope for better weather, though. Doesn't have to be sunshine, but a bit of light for five minutes would help me immensely taking pictures of her. Soldiers will take a bit more work. The models themselves are done, but now it's time for basing and that comes with abysmal drying times. So unless Photobucket is inaccessible later today (as it was yesterday ), there should be a picture update today.

Update time! Alright, so here it is. Commissar Marika, fully painted: You know those days when everything that can go wrong does go wrong? That was yesterday. Today, that was the perfect continuation of a day when everything that can go wrong does go wrong. I sit down to paint, instant hiccup. I pick up the model, my hand starts to hurt. For no discernable reason, I might add. Woohoo. Let's leave it at that. I don't really feel like reounting the last 36 hours. But in spite of everything, she's painted now. Thus the first full unit of the army is completed. On we go. As I said, I'm doingDark Elves again, which started with putting the finishing touches on some models. First, the Black Ark Corsairs: View on the banner: I cheated, choosing a different motif for each side so I wouldn't have to worry about symmetry. The theme is the same, however, so I can't say I feel this shortcut to success is detrimental. And the second unit that's finished, the Bloodwrack Medusa: No wussy green on mine like the yucky GW showcase model. I opted for red and beige for lizard skin for the sea dragon cloaks on the Corsairs, and if I ever paint the Cold Ones they'll follow suit. So I chose red and beige for the snake body, too. And to spoilerize the upcoming Kharibdyss, guess which colors I'll use on that one. And because more than one unit is now complete, here's an HG shot of the army so far: Which includes the four Darkshards I painted. I think. You know, warriors with crossbows. That's right, I'm going to strangle Mat Ward. Just a little. Just enough that he feels appreciated. Moving along, it took an age and a half but I am finally going to use Fozzrik's Folding Fortress for which I bought a Deathknell Watch kit some time ago. It's assembled, and now I have the wonderful choice of which color to paint the masonry. Ochre and beige sandstone? Gray granite? Snowflake obsidian (ZOMG! ITS FUL OF STARZ!). Basalt? How does basalt even look? Decisions, decisions! On that note, I painted my Kharibdyss a bit yesterday, and I really don't enjoy painting big models. I usually take a two year break between big models to forget how tiresome it is before I tackle another one. Now I'm looking at a big tower kit when my big monster isn't even finished. Bah! It's a cool kit, though. Really nice tower design, and it has a swirling blood maelstrom with screaming skulls in the basement. Doubles the real estate value right there.

Update time! Today we're going to talk about... what? Dark Elves? No. What Dark Elves? I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not doing Dark Elves. No clue what gave you that idea. No, I'm working on... dramatic drum roll... Dogs of War. Well, what I'm really doing is getting a bit of diversity in my collection. I've been eyeing Ironguts for many years. GW has been so kind to release Witch Elves, but since my Dark Elves are Corsairs of Slaanesh, Khainites have no real place in them. I really want old world humans, since they are central to the setting. There's a good chance I might like the new Dwarfs. I always liked the Ironbreaker models, but those models exclusively. And with a unit or two from every model range that I like, the only way to make use of them in a game, since I'm not one to spend much time, money and work on mere display pieces, is to play Dogs of War, of which there is a fanmade army book that is accepted in my group (and the Regiments of Renown side already played by one of our players, too). As a bonus I can easily use most of the models in their native armies, giving me mercenary or Chaos ogres, elves for my Dark Elves of High Elves, and humans for my Nuln boys. And if I don't like Dwarves, I'll use the points I reserved for them on Chaos Marauders, of which I have a unit of fitting size in my Warriors of Chaos already. Currently I am working on two units. One, and working is only loosely applicable here because I spent an hour rummaging through a lot of boxes to get the parts together, is a unit of knights who even have a name already. Mario's Short Stuff, named for the rather tiny, old Empire Knights I bought fifteen years ago (yeah, you can buy the exact same models still - sad, isn't it?) that I finally put to use now. The other are the aforementioned Ironguts, which I'm converting to Maneaters. I do find plastic ogres look right pants, however, and I'm really only drawn to these particular ogres for their armor design and two handed weapons, both of which I think are cool. But then Slaanesh the linguist whispered to me that I only needed to remove their pants from that sentence, and all of a sudden plastic ogres look right. And who am I to ignore the whisperings of such a wise and powerful god? I have room for Fozzrik's Folding Fortress, though, so work on the tower is still on. It's just that there won't be as many Dark Elves in the near future as I though a week ago. But markedly more naked ogres.

Update time! And now for something completely different: Yep, I have the attention span of a squirrel. That's Magos Therevak all painted and finished and woohoo. I have a game scheduled for Saturday in which I want to use a Warpsmith, so I figured I'd finally paint the model, seeing as it was already basecoated. So that's what I did this week. That's one thing less on my enormous backlog. Also: boobies. Let's not pretend that I know what I'm doing. Chances are I'll get a knight in two days, I may want to assemble and paint that. Or I may wait until I have the codex in hand to have some background on it first. I figure it doesn't make much of a difference because it is a display model first. I may actually end up playing with it more than I'm thinking now, because I love big stompy robots (as long as they con't comprise all of the army) and filling a huge chunk of points with one model instead of another fifty Guardsmen some poor guy (guess that's me) has to paint sounds very attractive to me. That'll likely be affected by what the new Guard codex brings, too. Realistically I don't have points for a knight in my Marines, and my Sisters are all metal, which really makes me not want to use them, so that leaves Guard. Speaking of which, I finally put the last details on the five soldiers I had on my desk for the past month. I might actually paint something Guard again next. I feel more like sci-fi than fantasy at the moment. I figure I could paint the Leman Russ. Like the Warpsmith, the Leman Russ is already basecoated, which makes it a tempting next model. On the other hand, perhaps I get vehicle upgrades in the next codex that I like. In that case painting a couple of regular soldiers would be better. Sigh. Decisions, decisions. Or I could paint the mercenary knights for Fantasy that are half done. I hate painting horses. They're done, leaving the knights and barding, but man, does it suck painting horses. Stupid things. Would be good to get them done. Would be good to paint my other Harpies, too. Would be good to paint a whole lot of things. So, for the next update you can probably expect something that's not on that list.

Update time! No pictures for reasons detailed below, but that doesn't mean I can't post an update. I am a lazy bum. Yeah, maybe real life had something to do with it, too, but I just spent two months doing not a damn thing. Woohoo, go me! Really, I managed to assemble two Necrons and picked up painting Guardsmen again two weeks ago, although painting five Conscripts over the course of two weeks is hard, so it'll be another week at least before they get done. However, I'm rather happy with the new Guard codex, which already resulted in a surge of activity. Ah, forgot the Chimera chassis I assembled to carry a Deathstrike into battle. The weapon system is still on sprue until I figured out an army list and wargear options, but I'm pretty sure I want to use both Deathstrikes I still have on sprues. Leaving the third Heavy Support slot for the Leman Russ that's awaiting painting. Not sure if that'll be next, though, since I also have a command squad that I want to paint. The real additions to what I already have are the preachers that will see use in my army list. I bought the Chaos Cultists box for three models with autoguns, since I really like the models but don't want to pick apart my actual Cultists, who see use every now and then. They're assembled and I'm currently turning the Chaos stars they wear into Ecclesiarchy symbols, which happily use an "I" symbol with a spiked star design. After that I'll throw some Empire Flagellant bits on each one. barring the green stuff work on the symbols, these models should be done fairly quickly as I don't think I want much more on them than a prayer book, perhaps a pistol holster and some skulls/relics/devotional items. I very much like the idea of industrial world street preachers that look more like the rabble they preach to than properly dressed temple priests. I'm currently debating getting a Track Truck. I like the model and I'm pretty sure I want another transport in my army next to the Chimera I have (but that still needs assembling). What I'm not so sure about is whether a model with tissue armor stays on the tabletop long enough for me to appreciate. That's probably going to be the deciding factor. I play against Tau a lot, and if the sneeze in its general direction, it's going to blow up. A Chimera is cheaper to get, costs only marginally more points and is infinitely more durable. Eh, tough one. Also, I need a new Inquisitress. The old one's clothing is far too modest. I'm investigating solutions at the moment. Well, ok, it's more a combination of not being entirely happy with some design decisions, mostly revolving around the daemon weapons, using an Eldar model as a basis for conversion, Finecast and difficulties transporting the model without fear of breaking anything. The model that I like is my Pariah Lord, because she is as sturdy as it gets without losing any detail or employing questionable design. I'd like something like that for my Inquisitress as well, because most of the time what stops me from including her in my army lists is that I am loath to transport the model. That's what I've been up to. I aim to post a Bob Shot when the Conscripts are painted to pretty this place up a bit. After all, ...

Wow, thats a shedload of not happening, I do sympathise having just spent a week playing OSL (emphasise shape & shade) vs DPM (disrupt shape & shade), so far DPM's winning hands down but I've still not actually finished anything - maybe next week.....
