Actively using character-driven stories to define the world of Malifaux, seek your fortune in this fast-paced and brutal 32mm tabletop miniature skirmish game. Assemble your crew and stake your claim!
What is Malifaux?
Are you willing to risk your soul for a chance at great wealth and power? It's your only weapon in a world rife with monsters, necropunks, man-machine hybrids, gunslingers, and power-hungry politicos. In Malifaux, you lead your Crew in the battle for control of the Breach, a dark portal to a world of limitless magic.
Malifaux is a character-driven 32mm tabletop miniatures game. Players collect, build, and paint models representing the denizens of Malifaux, pitting these models against one another in groups called Crews for control of the precious resource known as Soulstones.
A Crew can contain several different types of models depending on how a player constructs it. Masters can manipulate the course of events in the world around them, changing their own Fates through their control or theft of Soulstones. A variety of fantastic and frightening beings, collectively known as Minions, serve the Master as
fodder in his or her machinations. In addition, Henchmen can lead specialized Crews in their Master's absence, or serve their Master directly as a member of a Crew. Masters and Henchmen are also supported by Totems, extensions of their magical abilities which increase their spellcasting range and provide additional aid in an Encounter. Lastly, each Master can transform itself into a powerful Avatar, representing a specific aspect of their personality.
How well a Crew carries out its leader's Strategy and Schemes determines whether or not it will emerge victorious in an Encounter with
an enemy Crew. Strategies represent the Crew's main path to victory, while Schemes are simpler alternate routes to achieve the leader's goals.
Malifaux players use decks of cards called Fate Decks to resolve game events such as attacking and spell-casting. Players can manipulate the cards they play to alter the Duel's outcome. It takes a shrewd leader to effectively utilize a Crew's resources, ensuring he or she always has ready the cards needed to Cheat Fate.
Be prepared to fight to the death because Malifaux is the end of the line!

With Evocative images and an on-going storyline, beautiful sculpted figures and a thriving (and Supported) online community that the games creators actively contribute to, its easy to see why they are gaining momentum in the skirmish wargames Field.
Using a unique system of combat/Skill tests using a standard deck of cards or an "official" Fate deck it takes some getting used to doesn't it?
Well no, it doesnt... its really easy.
the biggest learning curve is using the suits on your cards to activate abilities More on that Later.
The game is based around two small 'gangs' of miniatures, usually 40 soulstones cost Lead by a 'Master' or 'Henchman' with objectives being key on who wins the encounter.
These could be Assassinate the opposing 'Master' being within 6 inches from a piece of scenery on the 3ft by 3ft board.
The game plays for 5 Turns on average and is fairly quick to play.
Each turn after the first you check for victory point conditions. and add them up for a total at the end of turn 5.
I have been surprised several times that i have won by the narrowest of margins just because i didn't move a model and they became unopposed and gained a victory point for me!
Game Mechanics...
The game works quite simply with flips & duels. Both flips and duels follow the same rules, but can be modified in several ways. These include Fate Modifiers, Cheating Fate, Soulstone Use, and Stat modifiers. In addition, Duels have a unique way that they can be modified; Triggers.
A Trigger changes the result of a Duel, usually by giving one or more of the models involved an additional effect beyond simple success or failure. Most models possess one or more Triggers, one of which can be Declared when the model’s Duel Total contains the appropriate suits (as shown in the Triggers description).
For example:
* Critical Strike: When damaging the target, this attack deals +1 damage for each * in the final Duel Total.
Where * is the suit on the card flipped to enable the action that the trigger is linked to.
Its difficult for me to explain without cutting and pasting the rule book here!!! There are videos on youtube which show a game in full swing and it makes more sense to watch a game. or get a Wyrd 'Henchman@ at your LGS to show you how to play
One unusual thing about the game is you 'Flip' for scenario and objectives then decide which 'Faction' you are using then you assemble your forces.
No having to assemble forces beforehand. this means you can tailor your force to counteract your opponent, as Different masters have different strengths and weaknesses.
I Love this game and the minis are superb, i strongly advise you have a go as watching isn't that much fun and you just dont get it by watching you have to play.
So to quote Bad things happen!
