So I realised how much I miss 40k, I sold my orks a while back after almost totally drifting away from the hobby but lately my passion for all things gaming has come back. After a weekend playing the judge Dredd miniatures game with friends a few weeks back I got to thinking about 40k again and realised I missed my orks so I decided to see what bits I had left and restarted them This time I'm going with an evil sunz theme, I have a dakka jet kit already and also a necron doom scythe that Stretch kindly gave me ages ago, together with an extensive orky bitz box I've got a looted doom scythe (dakka jet) and a burna bomber nearly built. I am also starting an ulthwe eldar army as I already have several units built ready to paint for them as well. So... here's the thing- I know a lot of people have left 40k for various reasons so I don't expect a lot of takers here but if anyone wants to join me in a "tale of painters" type of thing you'd be more than welcome. No points scoring etc just a pledge to build/ paint a unit a month or whatever you want to do to reignite the love of 40k My pledge is to paint at least 2 units a month, starting in December from orks and/ or eldar armies, this gives me just over 4 weeks from.now to complete this first pledge. Ok, who else wants in? FK

Been thinking about what's put me off 40k so much and realised the 2 things are 1)allies rules and 2) too many superheavy units. I've never been a big fan of the allies rules, there is a place for them of course (space marines fighting alongside imperial guard for example) but in the rules as they are you can practically mix and match any armies you like which is just ridiculous. Eldar and dark eldar fighting alongside each other? Totally against years of fluff. Marines fighting alongside tau? Or eldar? I thought marines had a pathological hatred of anything that wasn't human? So I won't be using allies... As for superheavy units, the last 3 or 4 games I played all had imperial bloody knights in them either on their own or as allies (see my rant above) it's gotten to saturation levels where every man and his dog has imperial knights in their army which got really boring really fast! Now I might sound like a bit of a hypocrite here but 2 of the units I have for my ulthwe are a revenant titan and a lynx super heavy tank but hear me out; I was given these models as payment for commission work, they are gorgeous models and I'm looking forward forward to painting them up but I likely won't use them in 'normal' games of 40k, they will only be used in special apocalypse type games (remember the days when superheavy units only came out to play in apoc?) Oh and the unbound rules, while meant to be used to create nicely themed armies have just been used to spam out loads of rock hard units to win at all costs so I won't be going there either Basically I'll be using 7th edition rules but with an older outlook on the game, 1 HQ and 2 troops to start, no allies and no superheavies to start. Looking forward to getting back into 40k I am FK

I'm in if you can cope with my glacial rate of painting.
I, on the other hand, WILL be doing super-heavies and allies purely because it's for display and hardly ever for gaming. I have a Baneblade kit begging to have something done with it and I'm running Khorne under BA rules (because Death Co are essentially loyal 'Zerkers) and Death Guard as Codex Marines (for cool little toys)- they're Battle Brothers, so it's permissible.
Most likely start this month on the building side.

Yay for Paul Was beginning to worry about the place, I can't promise no super-heavies but the closest thing to allies my BloodAxe Orks have got are DeffSkulz Orks (walkers including a Stompa) and SunBurnz Orks (fast attack including three dakkajets). And, coz Orks ain't that organised, I'm currently doing a DeffSkulz Bloozemobile skorchabuggy as part of a bigmek challenge on da Waaagh,- last month was the build starting like this and currently looking like this Next (er, this) month is the 'fix da lighter' and paint stage so I can put that in here as well if that's OK?

Excellent work Alan! And James as already stated I am going to do at least 2 superheavies (revenant titan and a lynx for my ulthwe and I plan on building a mahoosive stompa for my new Ork army) I just won't be using them every game I pay is what I meant... Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with guys FK

I'll have a crack with my Eldar. Some of it (a small some) is done and has been for ages (the Avatar, Wraithseer, the infantry seers/warlocks and some Dark Eldar Warriors imposting as Dire Avengers). Then there's some stuff in various degrees of paint, mostly wraithguard, lords/knight and some War Walkers which all got squirted yellow with the airbrush and some Shadow Spectres and Harliquins which didn't. Then there's thirty Guardians, some support weapons, a Warp Hunter, Wave Serpent, Lynx, a Nightwing conversion and some Swooping Hawks (again Dark Eldar impostors), some of them still on the sprue, some stuck together and some undercoated as well.
The potential problem is that I've done most of the interesting stuff already which may pose a problem for keeping my attention! How many ways are there of painting a guardian, really? Well, I can think of one, the airbrush, at least to basecoat them anyway, tanks too I suppose unless the powers that be deem that to be too dastardly a method! Again, unless it's considered too underhand and despicable, I'll base them all at the same time too, my pot of base paint which I thought was connected to a reservoir, isn't. What it is though is ancient, crusty and requiring liquid refreshment every time I want it to do anything (bit like me really!), I'll mix up a batch at the end and do them all at once.
First up is the Shadow Spectres cause I started them the other day and then maybe five Wraithguard with scythes, everyone's favorite!

I look forward to seeing that massive Eldar army. I am about to get another 2 lynx tanks and 9 hornets (as payment for more commission work) As for how you paint them it makes no difference whatsoever as long as they are painted! I will start painting my Eldar and Ork units real soon, can't wait FK

Whatever you want to do James, it's all just for fun and inspiration to rekindle our love for 40k I will be posting wip modelling pics and then painting wip pics as well but you're welcome to post whatever you want, there are no points or prizes just the kudos to be gained for keeping the 40k spirit alive FK

I'd even say as many WIP shots as possible - will help keeping us all at it during the "month"
