So following on from my previous thread: Brand New Games Input
Here is my explanations of my thoughts, already mentioned it to Daz and Rob over the weekend and they seemed to like it. So here goes!
Lately for the plans for meets we've all been a bit vague on what to play, mainly as so many of us are getting disenfranchised about 40k and a lot of us not sharing any other games systems. This is a plan to not only to gain a bit of structure but to get us all, hopefully, into a game at the same time!
The basic plan is to emulate what Beasts of War have done a couple of now and that's the Boot camp. The way they do it is to get people down to their studio to play a game system. They determine the game to be played (first was Dropzone, second was Bolt Action and next one end of June will be Infinity) and when players arrive their starter boxes they have chosen is waiting for them. Friday night is spent building the army then drinks, Saturday learning the game by playing the others, food and drinks and Sunday the same with a twist.
So that brings me to my plan, I want to do this with you guys! Hence my previous thread and the vote for this one. The games I've chosen are a good mix of genres and games. You've got 3 votes each to show what you guys would want to play and the winner will be the one we go with (in the event of a tie I'll pick from the highest voted). Once that has been decided we can then start worrying about when this will happen, so one step at a time!
So here are the games I've picked for us to have a go with
Bolt Action
28mm potentially large scale World War 2 game. Using this we can recreate major engagements from the last major war, forces include Germans, British, Americans, Russians and Japanese. A good game to start small and scale up.
Infinity
Cyper punk style 28mm skirmish game. Fantastic looking models from a skirmish system that is best played on boards with dense scenery. Plenty of factions using mecs, bikes and plenty of infantry.
Relics
Very cute 28mm mini battle game using puppets and fairies. A few factions that have plenty of character and a game system that doesn't penalise a person that rolls lots of 1s. Daz and I picked up starter sets and rules for this game at the UK Games Expo, so to share it with you lot would be fun.
Wild West Exodus
Steam punk in the wild west for this fantasy based 28mm skirmish game. Funky bikes, cowboys, indians and confederates. Imagine Wild Wild West for the table top with mechanical horses.
Warzone: Resurrection
Prodos Game's revival of the old 80s 32mm war game. This is a potential replacement for 40k for me. Free rules download, plenty of factions to pick from and support for them to create more for a relatively young but decent looking game. The game supports small 30min battles to gigantic wars that can wage for an entire day!
Bushido
Fight in feudal Japan for a skirmish game that uses Ki and factions that represent virtually all of Japanese culture, from Monks and Samurai to deamon Oni.
Judge Dredd
Judge Dredd skirmish game. Play as the factions either protecting or causing trouble in Mega City One in classic comic style. NOTE: Every vote for Batman will now be a vote for Dredd
Relic Knights
28mm Anime styled skirmish game. Bright, cheerful distraction from the dark gritty games we currently play. Beautiful girls, big machines, tough guys. Everything you'd want for a Anime based game! With 6 factions to choose from including Pirates, Racing drivers and Knights.
Flames of War
World War 2 in 15mm this time. Allows to play much bigger battles for the similar nations during the war.
Dystopian Wars
Alternate history ship fighting in epic scale with big ships and large fleet engagements for a large selection of factions to represent.
Ok then, that's all of them! Choose wisely...
