Here is a Space Marine, I have been working on since I got some new paints for the Chapter's colour scheme. Since I haven't painted any of my Space Marine Chapter since the new paints came out then I thought I better get some of the new ones. This is my first real attempt at some extreme highlighting and I'm currently considering putting a glaze on the blue to tie it all together and to bring the extreme highlights down a notch. I have still got the other areas to do yet but I'm wanting to make sure I'm real happy with the blue before I move on.

First off, Happy New Year and congrats for doing anything at all Blues looking a bit 'baby' (as in baby blue) at the minute but a darker blue glaze should sort that out. The fingers under the bolter could possibly do with a black line where they come out of the gauntlet as could the toe caps where they come out of the boot but it is appreciated that this is still early days.....

A glaze sounds like a pretty damn good idea to finish off what's looking like the start of a top paint job

Cheers for the comments. I need to get up and do something hobby related, its been pretty much a full year since I did anything, that, and I have a week off work anyway. I have glazed the the armour blue, and I can say the result is definitely worth it, just ties the whole armour together and just takes the edge of those highlights. Started on the green as well, going down the same route, with a base, wash, layer and 2 highlights, followed bay a glaze. I don't think for smaller items like for example purity seals, the glazes would be a major factor but for large sections of armour etc. i think just about everyting will be getting a glaze now. Anyway, here are some pics The 2nd pic has in an old marine, from what I used to paint, just to show the contrast in how I paint. Also note i have a new camera for xmas and I am still playing with the settings so the pics may come out a little differently each time.

That's a nice improvement there. Yeah, the glaze looks good (although honestly I like both before and after glaze pictures . It'll be good to see the finished Marine. I have a hard time judging individual parts until all the rest is done. Keep up the good work.

Right then, next stage I have got to. Managed to get the green highlighted and glazed. Have filled in the metal and those parts are ready for a wash. Considering thinking the green highlight may be a little too bright, even with the glaze. But I'd rather finish the mini now. Have the red for the gun and eyes, bone on the purity seal and the wash for the metal and its about done.

Had some more time off today, So I managed to get the mini finished, Well not completely finished as there is no shoulder pauldron markings, or its not based, but for now it is done. I may even buy some special bases for the army but I need to finish the painting first. I will put a couple more pics up in the re-continuation of my blog too.
