I got a bottle of the primer from a local hobby store a while back, but have yet to use it. I remember a couple of people on here using it as they preferred it to other brands. What i was wondering was.... How much would you dilute it, to put it through an airbrush, also is there a recommended psi for using it? This is the stuff i am on about www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/primers/family/22

Sorry I missed this, I bought some of their white surface primer a while ago, used it most recently on my Spanna Boyz last October, far as I can remember I just used it as it came and it went through the brush without a problem. When I do thin Vallejo paints I use their '71.161' Diluyente (thinner) for Model Air and Liquid Acrylic. As far as pressure is concerned I think I've got my relief valve set to about 45psi/3bar and it seems to work OK at that. Hope this helps.

I do thin this a little but to be honest it does work straight out of the bottle through an air brush. I love these primers. Little or no waste, great coverage, self levelling, super fast drying. Whats not to like?!

I was reading a few posts about it and some people recommend leaving it 24 hours to 'harden' and a few others seem to think it wears off the model very very easily. I have the stuff but have never used it so don't really know what to think of it.

Just had another look at my bottle, it calls itself 'Acrylic-Polyurethane'. Acrylics tend to dry quite quickly, Polyurethane - dunno, mixture of the two - Gork knows.
EDIT: Just noticed that HWG reckons it's 'superfast drying'.
Whenever I've used it, it's been as part of a 'colour modulation' pre-base coat so it's sprayed quite lightly over a GW Chaos Black primer and a lighter coat of Tetrosyl Trade Spray red oxide primer. All three coats go on in quite quick succession and I can't say that I've had any problems with it, maybe leaving the whole lot a couple of hours or so to go off.
As far as sticktion is concerned, unless you're painting a porous surface or using an etch primer, any paint is going to form a shell over the surface and pretty much rely on sticking to itself more than the model (although spirit based primers might dissolve slightly into the surface of polystyrene models - kind of working like etch primer). Both acrylics and polyurethanes tend to be good at sticking to themselves so unless the surface is greasy, there shouldn't be any great problem with it because, as long as they stick to themselves well enough, any 'lifting' has 14 psi of air pressure pushing it into the model to overcome.
Best bet is give it a go on something non-critical (a bit of sprue for example) and see what you reckon.

I never have an issue with it wearing off. Admittedly the base coat is then applied and I work with a number of varnishes too, which ensures nothing untoward happens after some hard work on the gaming tables

Blow dry it is your worried about bonding. The heat will cause the Primer molecules to bond. Also you really shouldn't have to thin it. I run it straight through my .15mm needle airbrush all the time, zero issues.

I have started using the Vallejo primers with my new airbrush, I bought a few of the primer colours (black and white being the most obvious along with grey and hull red for my Saim-Hann) I love these airbrushed primers, they are all great straight from the bottle and are ready for a basecoat within half an hour or so of applying. Oh and my compressor is set at 2 bar (this was recommended by Harder and Steenbeck literature and on the DVD that came with my airbrush.
