Happy New Year! I've been hiding for a while playing with my Vikings and Saxons but over Christmas I got around to getting my Wraith Eldar army up and running. Nothing special as yet, still bare plastic but I've had a few games with them and they're a right handful and a real surprise to both me and my enemies; I'm not used to winning games and they ain't used to me winning either! Still, I'm thinking about a couple of additions for the hell of it, don't know if it will happen or not. My thought is that I don't like flyers very much, only the Wraithlords can actually hit them and then only if they're lucky so that got me thinking about some aerial backup. Now I like the idea of the Hemlock but that suffers the same problem as the rest of the army; it can't shoot down flyers and I'm not sold on the idea of the Crimson Hunter. I want a Nightwing and have for a while. Thing is the Forgeworld one is bit steep so the question is what is the size comparison with the Dark Eldar flyer? They look very similar and carry the same number of guns so unless there's a massive difference in size I think I'll go with it. I know the Dark Eldar one lacks the swingwing but that shouldn't be insurmountable (or I'll just ignore that bit!)

Surely it would be a simple enough task to convert the plastic GW crimson hunter to a `counts as` nightwing with 2 brightlances and a (long barrelled) shuriken cannon. Save you lots on the FW prices...

I've seen the Dark Eldar flyer in person, but not the Nightwing, but judging by the canopy on the latter (going on FW's pictures here) I think they are of comparable size. Not exactly the same, probably, but close enough that no one should complain.
When you factor in that flyers come on the tall flying stand and many tables don't have significant terrain that tall, gameplay differences from size and shape of the flyer are so small that only really obvious differences should alter how they play. By which I mean something like how Eldar designs are wide and flat and Imperial ones brick shaped.
