Apart from feeling rather unworthy after comparing this to the model i sent off, i have to say this model has me looking at my grey/black plastic elven army and wanting to cry. I received this from one of the guys in Denmark and it is to me, an amazing model and a fantastic gift. I don't really know what to do with my elven army now as it is fully purchased and unpainted, sat on a shelf looking very sorry for itself. Anyways enough blathering and self pity. Here is my SS present.

What's with the self pity? I don't get what you mean? Is it because your army isn't built/ painted or is it because you don't think you could paint as well as that?

What's he holding, anyway?
As to the rest, think of it as encouragement!

James I'm guessing the model is converted to look like he is about to hurl a fireball but, given that it looks more `warrior` than `mage` I could be wrong.

Its supposed to be an elven loremaster launching a fireball spell.
Its had me looking and considering my fantasy project for next year and reviewing the fact that i havent fielded a painted army in well over a decade!

Just paint your models. So long as you have two hands and a paint brush what's stopping you?
If you want it that bad, you'll do it. If you don't do it then you couldn't have wanted it that bad.

I wish it was that simple Gareth.
Like many of you know i have struggled with painting mentally. I made some progress over the last year, with a few small projects coming together. So i am taking baby steps back up to full tilt painting.
As of a week ago i have started to get some help with what i believe is the root cause...sleeping problems. So i am hoping and believing to i can turn 2014 into the year i finally climb back onto the hobby horse properly.

It's suppose to be enjoyable. If it's causing you torment and anguish (which I'm getting from reading your posts) I'd say don't paint. It's not worth the hassle. Or you can see it for what it is. A bit of fun in the evening to relieve the stresses of the day. If you're worrying about painting then you're doing something wrong, just my humble opinion.

Gareth that `humble opinion` of yours is spot on mate, I'm sure most people who are into our hobby would agree with everything you said- painting really should be enjoyable, if you don't enjoy it then don't do it. It's not as though it is particularly important in the great scheme of things is it? If you don't paint for a while then no harm comes to anyone (unless you paint for a living as a commission painter I suppose! ) So yeah, just repeating what Gareth already said, don't force yourself, paint when you are ready to enjoy painting and not before... Thanks guys, have been thinking over the last week or so and trying to work out what has been going on. Took a change of approach last wednesday. Bought my laptop painting tray down to the front room, put on a couple of dvd's and (albeit slowly) actually managed to paint for a while. It's the first time in a long time i have just sat down, chilled out and painted. Managed that wednesday, yesterday and today. Above all i actually enjoyed it again. Thats a pretty big step forward from where i had been .
