Been in a bit of a depressed state off and on for the last few months from various RL reasons, so I just made a "comfort purchase" Kromlech order! Ordered 3 x Combi-Flamer "mega-nobs", to go with the 12 others I already have and a squad of "Schmeisser Greatcoat Orcs" to go with the 10 Greatcoat generic Orcs I already have. Of course these are all still on bits on the boxes they came in, but you know how it is! cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=161134879913cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=151144209679Anyone else do this at all, or is it just me. I will get round to making and painting them all one day ... of course .... but .... HG

I used to comfort buy, then real life came along and kicked me in the ass (and in the bank balance ) now the comfort buying has stopped, luckily I have enough Ork bits to build another couple of thousand points, an unbuilt Skaven army and around 1000 points of Eldar ready to paint so that's enough to keep me out of trouble for a while! Looking at Eldar Wraithknights and Crimson hunter flyers though brings a tear to my wannabe compulsive buying eye FK

Yup comfort buying is all part and parcel of the hobby, I try to resist these days. But that's a varying amount of success... It's not always toys though, sometimes music and electronics...

I haven't done for awhile, I try to make all my purchases for a reason now. Mainly Since I'm constantly working on army projects rather than just randomly collecting. Only exceptions seem to be rulebooks like when the new Space Marine Codex came out.

Only exceptions seem to be rulebooks like when the new Space Marine Codex came out. Me too. The last two years I have stopped buying stuff "I wanted", and instead bought stuff "I needed". By "needed" I mean what I want in my armylist and so won't stay in the box for longer than a week.

Sounds about right, although I do want to change that to a certain degree. Do kind of miss the "oh that's a cool model, I'll buy it for my army because it looks cool to paint"

The last two years I have stopped buying stuff "I wanted", and instead bought stuff "I needed". By "needed" I mean what I want in my armylist and so won't stay in the box for longer than a week. Pretty much the same for me, except I do have stuff that remains in the box for a longer time, for two reasons. Now is always better than later when it comes to GW. It's only going to get more expensive. Making a plan and buying is much less time consuming than assembling, converting and painting. The second reason is that planning in detail does in fact take time, and so thinking things through can lead to long waits for the poor little boxed plastic parts. I do comfort purchase, though. I just pretend that it is a "need" purchase rather than a "want" one.

For me it's usually a case of 'ooh, shiny!' (I'm probably not as bad as I used to be)

My antidote to comfort buying is a very easy one.
It's called GW's prices.....
£47.50 for three models? Nah.

I'd love to but having to look after the pennies never mind the pounds, so GWS is not getting any extra in the foreseeable future. To be honest I've got enough Armies to be getting on with anyway and no space for anything extra.
Lol ... I've promised myself I'll ensure any funds raised through creating the bases gets kept back for more rubber and resin so I can continue to build up that creative side of the hobby. But you know what it's like and it keeps getting spent on family essentials of late instead.
Things will swing around sooner or later and the hobby spends will flow again.
