I have the makings of 2500 points (more actually but lets start here) of Night Goblins. I plan on having three units (all hoards) of speargobbos and 4 of archers. All with Shamans and all with 3 fanatics each. Shut up Chaos players. Anyway, Skarsnik leads the largest unit of speargobbos. No war machines or monsters. My question to you all is: Do I need them?
That is all.

I've not yet played an entirely Night Gobbo army but I imagine that will be quite tough to beat, especially as they ate all hordes and there for the duration!

They may not be. They only have Goblin leadership, and whatever bonus the General and BSB can provide. If you can assassinate these two, even with steadfast it's not assured that they can stay in combat for long.
No monsters shouldn't be a problem. No war machines? That's the tougher question. You can beat infantry and monsters in close combat, you have the numbers to weather enemy fire well enough for long enough, but cavalry, both regular and monstrous, may prove too much for the army. The archers have a fairly short range and no armor penetration, so they won't do much damage to heavily armored knights. For the same reason they'll dominate close combat. That leaves you with Fanatics to deal with them. They're scary if you have nothing to draw them out first, but if you do, once let loose, they're unreliable and potentially damaging to the Goblin army, and they have no choice but to be released at the first opportunity. War machines would allow you to cover that weakness in that it offers you a more reliable way to deal with knights at range than trying to catch thhem with Fanatics.
Necessary? Probably not. Useful? I think so.
Edit: It also depends on what kind of damage you can do with magic. I'm not all that familiar with the Little Waaagh, or how many Shamans you want to play, but obviously they can also perform the same duty as war machines if you have good damage spells.

Right now its 7 shamans. 4 first, 2 second and a fourth level. I still have a couple of hundred points to play with so let me look at those options.

I'm looking at something similar. Though I'm also looking at snotlings to tarpit/secure my flanks.

I've considered building squig chariots and using the wolf chariot rules for my flanks.
