This is the final instalment of a years worth of 40k campaigning at WHW. Tickets are now sold out for over a month, but I shall be in attendance with the Imperial Fists and Legio Astorum once more proving that Marines are just too damn good for their own good. Heretics and Xenos beware!
Will update this thread with the results and weekend coolness!

How serious are people at events like this?

As with all events, no matter who organises them, some take it serious, some take it tournament like, but MOST take it as a fun gaming weekend like it is intended. There is no prize for winning all your games, so that tends to deter people spending £60 a ticket not to get anything for it. The sides are split 50/50 and the cumulative VP's determine which side wins. That side then gets a nice certificate. So individual scores are not on the agenda. Sure you get the Throne of Skulls types testing their mettle with their 3 Wraithknight armies etc but on the whole its themed task force narrative players vying for the fun of it. Plenty of prizes on offer at each weekend too Best single figure Best vehicle Best monstrous Best fortification Most sporting (per side as voted by the players) MVP (Per side as voted by the faction leader from GW events) Best army nominee (usually 8-10 finalists) plus the overall winner Best army list (yes the most ingenious army list presentation gets an award!) Best team at the quiz We take our entire GW store of vet players there (20 in Nov!) and have a riot. GW events are really band on these days after a few years in the wilderness. The current events team are very very good. So far my prize tally has got me best vehicle twice, best single mini, task force winner twice), quiz winner and 3 best army nominations. To be honest thats what I go for...the games can win lose or draw This November I am entering my Legion Glaive, and a Dark Angel Deathwing Knight...watch this space for glory or defeat...

How serious are people at events like this? It was always fun when we went to the Tempus Fugitive weekends.

Yup the earlier TF events were great. Since moving to TTN and little or no updates from the main organiser, the customer base vanished very quickly. Although IMO the move was not to blame, when the sole person arranging the events basically stopped doing updates in time, and failed to communicate with his player base, the events stopped being attended. Pity. However GW have risen like a Phoenix from the flame and their events are now very very good IMO and have been going as regularly as possible. If you like campaigns and narrative gaming at the GW mecca, then these are the things to go to.

Well the war is over, the fate of Vidar confirmed. After a year long battle of linked campaigns it's over for 2013, roll on 2914! There are plenty of pics on the games workshop Facebook page who want to see the action pan out and the pretty armies. As to the results of my endeavours this past weekend.... Winning task force Winning best vehicle paint job (I did enter the Reaver admittedly!) Short listed for best army but once again ousted by the magical OTT of Philemon Henderson Most sporting opponent Oh I managed to win all 4 games as we'll who says the current SM codex is not competitive?! The last one was rather a nice finish to the event, and will see my name on the board in Bugmans by all accounts. Over three campaigns this year I have been rather successful and it's a little humbling albeit the effort is nice to be seen to be rewarded. 3 best army nominations 1 Winning single figure 2 winning vehicles 3 winning task forces 1 task force most outstanding player 1 most sporting player The events are getting slicker and better all the time, and cannot wait for March 2014 to head back to the fields of tabletop warfare although I am expecting that the IF will not be going as I try and get a new army prepared and ready to fight. They could feature as an allied attachment maybe...we shall see how the painting goes between now and then!
