SWC Forum guidelines...
We have to have a set of guidelines on what is and isn't acceptable to this forum. They are not hard and fast rules, but require an element of common sense and control. These will be enforced by the moderator team.
We operate a 3 strikes and out policy. A Minor infraction will result in a PM from a mod explaining what you did wrong, and your post edited/deleted accordingly. 3 Minors = account ban. We also have the ability to edit what you can and cannot do - such as denying your ability to send PM's and so on.
Language
We have a vast age range who play this hobby. What you consider acceptable may not be on this site. Please, no swearing. Also please do not try and "disguise" swear words by simply using asterisks or numbers to represent clearly obvious unacceptable language.
Racism
We do not tolerate any 'isms on this site. This is a major infraction and anything like racism will result in a banned account. No warnings.
Politics
We play with religion, politics and guns on little plastic soldiers and tanks, which we put back in the box once we are finished playing.
We do not do RL politics, we do not do RL religion.
And no you can not vote about it
Txt/l33t Spk
This site is not like a mobile phone. We far prefer to read in English, without having to translate M8, etc. There is no character limit, or cost per post, so take some time to write out what you wish to say in full. You will find that you get more replies that way too! We do allow common net speak abbreviations though that are common place in todays internet world. Lol, rofl, btw, iirc and so on are permitted. No "shouting" in capitals or bold. We have put in filters to try and erradicate most of the common txt spk abbreviations, but this does not mean you should test the system!
Trades
We actively support those with excess hobby spare bitz to trade them with their friends on ths site. Once you have listed and agreed swaps, please continue the trade within PM's or email. We do not support sales of your spares though. The SWC does not take any responsibility for any trade that goes wrong.
Links to other sites
We support other peoples website endeavours. Please feel free to advertise your site in your signature.
Signatures
Please keep them of a reasonable size. Nothing more infuriating that staring at the same massive signature over and over in the same thread. We ask that you be reasonable.
Avatars
Please make sure these are clean. No nudity! You are limited in pixel size. I suggest a jpeg resizer to reduce any pic you want to use to the appropriate size. This is changed in your User Control Panel and the limits are indicated there as well.
Polls
This site incorporates a poll feature. Please keep them on topic, and not related to "what food/clothes/beer" to you drink while gaming etc.
Forums
We have a vast set of forums covering the majority of what the hobby is about. Please try and post your topic in the right place. Try to keep threads on topic.
Rules Help
We have a rules forum. This is for discussing the grey areas or help in locating a particular rule in a book. This is not for asking for stats, or rules quotes from the books. That's against GW copyright. Please dont ask for them.
These guidelines are not exclusive, but require you to extrapolate what is and isn't acceptable. If you are unsure, ask a mod in a PM.
And now onto the FAQ...
To answer the most common questions...
Why the name "Spacewolves"
Many years ago - over 10 now(!) - myself and HG got fed up on the GW forums of all the cheap nasty banter and decided we should try an alternative grown up approach to the hobby, and primarily a place to share our miniature pictures. So without any money or clue what we were doing, we registered a MSN community which had some space to put pictures, and create some basic forum functions. Having trawled through many generic 40k type forum names, most of the really good ones and some not so good ones were taken, or registered and unused. So we decided to go with the name of our favorite SM chapter. We both had extensive armies and it made sense. Soon the word spread that the forum was pretty good and you didn't get flamed into the floor for asking silly questions and got good feedback on army lists. Also we amassed a shed load of pictures! Anyway, from those early beginnings we spread our wings and covered all 40k races. So we are here now, still with fond roots of our early MSN days, but still carry a torch for the name Spacewolf.
What are the ranks all about?
Well to reward those regular posters on the forum, your rank increases. It holds no additional privileges, but does show who are the regulars from the not so regular. Both types of member are more than welcomed.
You start as a Blood Claw and move up to Venerable Dreadnought after a number of posts. (Please dont post junk just to get post count up though, we regularly cull the site to maintain the database, so junk posts do get deleted!)
What are the special ranks?
There are some special ranks assigned to site moderators. These are the folks who look after the site administration and ensure it runs smoothly.
We have Site Administrators responsible for everything, Wolf Lords responsible for the forum content, Wolf Priests for the gaming admin.
Avatars
You can add an avatar - a picture that appears under your user name in the forums. This can be sorted out in your profile. You can upload a picture from your own PC, or link it from another website. The picture is limited by pixel size. The point of them is to personalise your account Please keep them clean of course!
Note: When importing the old user database from the old software, something funky happened to your avatar. I think its to do with the directory it was stored in. Either way, the image is still available, From your UCP, go to avatars and select the gallery. Click the dot below your image and "submit". That will re-populate your avatar image
Signatures
Under every post you make, a signature can be added. This is done from your profile and can be a combination of text and/or a picture. We would rather it be just text though rather than massed images repeating themselves please.
User Control Panel
This is the place that you can amend email addresses, set signatures, add avatarss, change your board "skins". Every member has a UCP.
You can set your date of birth here if you like. This means that on your birthday it will show up in the main Board Index at the bottom of the page and everyone can send you their best wishes in the Off Topic forum. Obviously if you wish to keep your details secret, then no worries. It is "internet awareness week" after all.
