New year and a new start hobbywise for me. I finally found my trigger to get back into the hobby and it's working on scenery again. But this time working towards having stuff I can replicate. So making enough to cover a board without having to do it all from scratch. I'm also starting my guard again so lots of stripping in dettol.

Sounds good, I've only just got my hobby back too. You have also just reminded me i have 3 eldar jetbikes in dettol. They have been in there about 2 years now. I think i can take them out soon. Lol

I've just been and inspected those models I had in dettol. They had survived, kind of. The dettol had stained the tub it was in. One model fell to bits as i presume the glue had melted. The other 2 were whole still. The paint endes up like sludge and then i tried to clean them off with some hot water. I think that was a mistake, the paint/dettol/water mix went gooey and sticky. Only with the intervention of white spirit was the area cleanable. I ended up chucking the tub and minis as they weren't salvagable at all.

Right ... Dettol stripping is a delicate matter. DON'T involve water at all. Brush the sludge off with a brush and then use more dettol to rinse the models off. Once 99% is removed plenty of dish soap and water will clean off the reminants. But add water to the sludge and it'll harden straight away!!!

Almost forgot ... Make sure you don't pour away the dettol, capture it in a big bowl including the sludge and pour it into a tall jar leave the lid on for a few weeks. Once all the sediment settles pour off the refreshed dettol into a bottle and you can reuse multiple times.

Ah. Well the sludge didnt harden but went incredibly sticky and got everywhere. Not sure if leaving it for 2 years had any impact. Will have to look into more when i actually want to strip models. Not sure why is stripped the jetbikes in the first place lol.

Yeah ... It's like chewing gum getting stuck on everything.
I need to work out exactly what I'm doing with the guard and start painting them up ASAP. New brushes arrived this morning and I still haven't managed to grab some free time to be able to do some painting yet.

I've done some major re-shuffling of the hobby space. It's gone from the biggest room in the house to sharing that room with the kids as a play/hobbyroom, to now having the corner (which will be hidden away by some panel curtains) as the rooms becoming mine and the wife's bedroom. So some major reductions in scenery stuff has had to happen and a lot of the collection has been boxed up. I've still got the remaining 2 glass fronted units. These are currently filled mainly with boxes of models and the remainder of the scenery building stuff. The aim now will be to move my collection from the boxes and get them painted up so they can then be displayed properly. So onwards with getting the models painted up. First to be painted is my Stormlord which I pushed myself a bit with. Previously I'd always just slapped lenses with a flat colour and then gloss varnished it. This time I hunted down a process I'm happy with and now all of the army's lenses will be matching in purple. The idea behind the guard force was to have a Rogue Trader leading a fleet to settle a new system (well new to humans anyway) ... and thus the story unfolds.

Cheers fellas lad you like it.
It's taken about a month and a half to get it finished. Bit of a long on off slog but my backs been playing up so no long sessions for me at the moment.
I've now got the hobby space sorted bar a few small boxes that need to find a home and the dreaded sift through the bitz boxes. Down sizing the hobby space means the old habit of sweeping everything into a box and then leaving it can't continue. I reckon there will be a shed load of lead and white metal clippings/tabs that I can use to weight my cast bases. I really need to crack on with making some new ones up, as the old moulds are slowly wearing out.

Lovely job on the reds, the white sash looks a bit rough round the edges though - probably not helped at all by the serious contrast between the adjacent colours Main issues I can see in the long run is the bases just blending into the models as I've chosen quite a similar dark scheme. Maybe I should move to a pale green and then wash/ dirty it up and then add some wear and tear? or perhaps give it some rust weathering powder, rub off the high spots and see how that looks

The white is a big failure. I have never been able to master a good white cloth colour. Well clean cloth colour anyway. So I included it on both to push myself. It's ended up having 3 attempts and I was risking details starting to be lost if I continued. So I gave it my best shot and left it at that. Hopefully I'll master it by the time I've finished the army and can revisit the sashes in the future. The yellow was a similar thing pushing my comfort zone but that worked out well. This time around so with enough trial and error I should get the white sorted sooner rather than later. Will give the bases a bit more thought but you might be right about trialling some pigments. Never used that medium before so would be another pushing of the hobby comfort zone.
