Decided to start a progress blog here as my new airbrush came through today. I have very little experience of airbrushing (owned 2 Chinese brushes (the ones that came with the compressor) and Iwata neo brush, all of which I accidentally killed through lack of skill and preparation- that will not happen again....) So, leaving that all behind I have invested in a Harder& Steenback evolution silverline 2 in 1. Delivered this morning along with instructional DVD, 3M hose, quick release valve with built in air flow regulator and a cleaning kit purpose built for H&S brushes. I also bought a large bottle of thinners (let's not be clogging the brush up with paint again eh lol) So, anyway, here we go; I will keep a blog in here of progress and experience (good and bad) and also anything I paint with the brush. I likely won't have time to actually use it till Thursday as I want to have a good read of the instructions and watch the DVD a couple of times before I let myself loose on it... This is what I have to play with, wish me luck FK

Apart from keeping it clean and clog free isn't it just like spraying with a more accurate aerosol paint can?

Ok then, away we go Finally got time to start some commission work today (as well as starting to paint/ wallpaper the hall stairs and landing!) Very nervous actually putting paint into the brush to use it, convinced it would splutter/ block from the initial spray but no sense paying that money and not using it right? So I loaded some Vallejo grey primer into the brush and set to work. An hour or so later I have the base colours blocked in on 4 of the 9 plague drones I have to paint and 20 plaguebearers as well. I guess it will be a learning curve but the basics of laying down smooth coats of paint seem `fairly` straightforward, let's see what else can be achieved with it with some practice but for now I have some WIP pics to keep my diary of airbrush usage... Ha ha I tried to add text to that post but from my phone it either let me paste the picture links or add text, not both, crazy phone! Anyway, yeah, getting the hang of basic use of the brush now, a few lessons learned so far: •just because the bottle of paint claims it can be used without thinning doesn't make it so, especially the model air ptimers, sometimes they are a little too thick so need a few drops of thinner. •use slightly higher air pressure for priming than you do for everything else. •for true 'white knuckle' thrills, when giving the brush a complete strip and clean, do it over the bathroom sink without a plug in while holding the tiny needle cap and airbrush tip More lessons learned soon I'm sure; currently painting 3 necron annihilation barges, 9 plague drone and a tau devilfish for commission along with my own Eldar, starting nights tonight but starting painting again Thursday... You had to thin the Vallejo Primer? Interesting. In 4 years I have never had to.

Yep the large surface primer bottle, red brown colour, tried it undiluted and it just clogged the tip of the brush but thinned down (about 4 to 1 ratio paint to thinner) it worked perfectly.
Ironically enough I've found this 4 to 1 ratio of paint to thinners to work perfectly with about 7 or 8 various GW or Vallejo model colour paints all of which then sprayed beautifully.

This is something maybe we could get stretch to show us at the meet I have the compressor and air brushes but never had the chance to do it in RL I would probably use them if I knew how to do it...
